Templeton plans Scholastic Book Fair Feb 1-3; Accelerated Reader Family night slated Feb. 2

Templeton Middle School will host its annual Scholastic Book Fair Feb. 1-3 with the Accelerated Reader (AR) Family Night planned for Feb. 2. The book fair is open to students during the school day and to community members and families Feb. 2 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. during the Accelerated Reading Family Night.

AR Family Night is designed to promote reading as educational, fun and exciting. Parents, grandparents and siblings gather informally to select books, discuss what they’ve read, give book recommendations, read together and take computerized AR reading practice quizzes. Participants are free to drop in for a few minutes or stay as long as they’d like. The Scholastic Book Fair will be open for browsing and purchases throughout the evening.

A recent study of literature-based reading shows that U.S. students in general read only 7.1 minutes a day. The study also shows that reading practice helps to increase reading performance.

Because of the success of the school’s previous book fairs, Scholastic selected Templeton as a Host Fair. Principals and librarians from 12 other school districts were invited to observe Templeton’s successful middle school book fair.

Templeton Middle School is located at N59 W22490 Silver Spring Dr., Sussex.
