Templeton raises $4,088 through Math-A-Thon

Templeton Middle School students raised $4,087.90 in November for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Students learned the importance of helping children while practicing their math skills through their fundraiser, a Math-A-Thon. Students asked sponsors to donate money based on the number of correct answers in their 230-problem math booklet.

“The students and community came through big time,” said Templeton teacher Sherry Malmon. Each grade raised more than $500 but Trenette Fowler’s sixth grade blue house students raised $836.05, Amy Wilde’s eighth grade house earned $691.25, and Brenda Peterson’s seventh grade gold house raised $550.50.

Top individual money raisers were:

  • Leanna Vannarom, grade 7 — $242.40;
  • Alec Smiltneek, grade 6 — $200;
  • Lindsey Burleson, grade 8 — $152.25;
  • Hannah Wiesneski, grade 6 — $150; and
  • Krislyn Follmann, grade 6 — $149.

St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital was founded 25 years ago by comedian Danny Thomas as a place where children with many forms of cancer receive treatment, even when there is no insurance to cover the long-term cost of treatment. It is also a research center recognized for the biomedical research dedicated to finding cures for catastrophic childhood diseases.
