Patron services – ushers and ticket takers

Patron services team members are responsible for learning the layout of the theater and facility in order to assist patrons. They are assigned a specific task and area of the theater at any given performance. These tasks include seating patrons, taking tickets or directing patrons to the appropriate entrance.

Training is provided. Time commitment is typically 3‐5 hours per performance (but can be more than 8 hours), mostly evenings and weekends. Our ushers and ticket takers are the first people that our patrons meet when they attend a performance, so it is crucial that they are friendly, patient, and people‐oriented. Front-of-house opportunities are open to students and adults, ages 16 and older. Ushers and ticket takers are compensated at $16.25 per hour with a flexible work schedule. Patron services personnel are busiest during the months of November, December, April, May and June.

Expectations of our patron services team:

  • Ushers and ticket takers are at the performance primarily for the patrons. The show is an added bonus.
  • Arrival is expected one hour before performance start time.
  • Patron services team members must be able to stand on their feet for long periods of time, walk stairs, lift at least 30 pounds and be able to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Wear a white, collared dress shirt and black slacks (no jeans) or knee‐length skirt with sensible shoes.
  • Be aware at all times, of what is going on around you and report any problems to the house manager.
  • Be aware of fire exits and emergency procedures.
  • Be ready to be friendly and have fun!
