Members of Hamilton High School’s Key Club are hosting a children’s book drive to support young readers and promote a love of literacy. New or gently used books can be donated at Hamilton High School March 16-27. The books will be donated to Brown Street Academy in Milwaukee this spring.
“We wanted to host a book drive in order to help the community around us,” explains Hamilton High School Junior and Key Club President Payton Russell. “The Hamilton School District is blessed to have such amazing collections of books with all varieties for students to read, across all grades and levels. We want to share this gift of reading with Brown Street Academy, their students deserve this gift as much as we do.”
Community members are encouraged to participate in some light spring cleaning and gather gently used books that would be appropriate for elementary-aged students. Woodside Elementary School and Lannon Elementary School will also be collecting books for the Key Club book drive the week of April 7-14.
“Key Club wants to leave a lasting impact on our school and the community around us,” shares Hamilton High School Junior Madison McCauley. “Not just through the people we are helping or giving back to, but also by helping build character and leadership for our members!”
Donations can be dropped off in the collection box located in the Hamilton High School front office during school hours. Students are also invited to bring book donations to collection bins in the HHS library, Charger Corner store and classroom NA 100.
