Templeton Middle School (TMS) DECA students took an exciting and educational field trip to Epic Systems, a leading healthcare software company located in Verona, Wisconsin, on January 8. The visit gave students a valuable firsthand look at a professional work environment and introduced them to a wide range of careers.

“Watching students ask questions about college, careers and next steps was incredibly rewarding,” explains Templeton Middle School Teacher and DECA Advisor Sheila Frafjord. “This trip reinforced the value of hands-on, real-world experiences in helping students build confidence and dream bigger about their futures.”
Templeton Middle School Teacher and DECA Advisor Timothy Kruschel also escorted students during the tour, which only covered approximately one-tenth of the massive Epic campus. During the tour, Epic staff shared insights about the company’s mission, the customers it serves, and the many departments that work together to support healthcare organizations around the world. Students learned how Epic’s campus is thoughtfully designed, including how decisions are made as the company continues to grow and expand.
“Connecting classroom lessons and DECA skills to a real-world business environment was incredibly powerful for our students,” adds Frafjord. “Visiting Epic helped them see the many career opportunities available and motivated them to start thinking about their own future paths.”
