More than 50 local veterans took part in Hamilton School District’s Annual Veterans Day Drive-Thru Parade on November 11. Students from Silver Spring Intermediate School and Templeton Middle School lined the parade route waving flags, holding signs and cheering as veterans passed.

“You can see the genuine admiration our students hold for each and every individual who has served our country,” shares Templeton Middle School Principal Brad Hoffmann. “This annual Veterans Day Parade tradition is a way for our students to express appreciation and continue learning about the true meaning of service and sacrifice.”
Silver Spring Intermediate School Principal Deanna Wellens says the parade creates a wonderful opportunity for students to reflect, remember and honor those who have served our country. “This amazing event creates an opportunity for personal stories and connections to be shared among our students, staff and larger community.”
Veteran Ron Schanz lives in Sussex and loves participating in the parade. Each year, he rides in his convertible with the top down leading students in ‘USA, USA’ chants along the parade route. Schanz says he enjoys the students’ enthusiasm. “I do it to honor my brotherhood of veterans for what they have done,” shares Schanz.
Members of Sussex Auxiliary Post donated American flags for students to wave during the parade.
