Hamilton drama presents “Little Women”

Hamilton High School Drama Society presents “Little Women” November 8-10 at the Hamilton Fine Arts Center. Shows begin at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. for the Sunday performance.

Louisa May Alcott published “Little Women: Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy,” the first volume of her now-classic book, in 1868. This adaptation, commissioned by DreamWrights Youth and Family Theatre of York, Pa., is based on that first volume, along with “The Battle of Beaumanoir,” a later Alcott story containing obvious echoes of Jo’s penchant for swashbuckling tales and her touching friendship with their neighbor, Laurie. Special attention is given to the imaginative play of the young characters: storytelling, playacting, letter writing, newspaper publishing and other creative endeavors still available to young people today.

This is a charming and intelligent adaptation that breathes new life into Louisa May Alcott’s beloved story. A heart-warming, classic tale perfect for the whole family.

Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for students and seniors. Tickets may be purchased at www.hamiltonfineartscenter.com or at the box office 30 minutes before each performance.

The Hamilton Fine Arts Center is located at W220 N6151 Town Line Rd., Sussex.
