“I believe this is the first time in HHS history that we have had the honor of having SIX National Merit Scholarship finalists at Hamilton as well as the first time that we have had all semi-finalists move on to the finals round,” said Hamilton High School Principal Rebecca Newcomer. “We are so proud of their academic accomplishments and even more proud of their overall character. These students are role models in and out of the classroom and we are lucky to have them as Chargers.”

Finalists must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by the school principal, write an essay and earn SAT scores that confirm the students’ earlier test performance.

More than 1.5 million high school students entered the competition by taking the 2022 Preliminary SAT (PSAT)/National Merit Scholarship qualifying test.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), established in 1955, is a not-for-profit organization that operates without government assistance. Scholarships are underwritten by NMSC with its own funds and by approximately 400 business organizations and higher education institutions to honor the nation’s scholastic champions and encourage the pursuit of academic excellence.
