Art Fun, gr. 1-3 (HHS)

Summer fun is here. Let’s be art creators. Students in this class will be involved with many types of media such as painting and sculpting with clay. We will explore our creativity in a variety of ways, both indoors and out, while having a blast doing it. So get your smocks and be prepared to get messy.

Backyard Games, gr. 4-8 (HHS)

Great fun and memories can be made right in the backyard. This class will give students the opportunity to learn and polish skills in activities such as bean bag toss, ladder golf, washers, bocce ball, badminton and kickball variations. Problem solving, communication skills and even a little bit of math are just a few of the benefits of this fun filled class.

Basketball Beg, gr. 1-2, 3-6 (HHS)

A variety of exciting drills and games have been designed to help students learn and develop the fundamentals for dribbling, shooting and passing.  Students will learn both offensive and defensive strategies.  Skill practice may lead up to team games and competition.  Throughout the course we will stress team play, sportsmanship and positive attitudes.

Basketball Int, gr. 5-8 (HHS)

This class will focus on the skills and strategies needed to play at the middle school level.  Fundamental skill development, individual and team defense, and shooting techniques will be highlights of this class. These skills will be applied to team games and competition. 

Bite Into a Good Book, gr. 3-6 (HHS)

Nothing spices up a good book like food, especially when it’s tied to the book you’re reading. In this class we will read books from a variety of genres and pair each book with enjoyable snacks.  So why not Bite into a Good Book!

Book Cooks, gr. 1-2 (HHS)

Book Cooks combines reading with delicious snacks.  Each week, students will gather in small groups to create snacks that correspond to the week’s theme.  Students will have the opportunity to read independently, buddy read and listen to stories read aloud.  If you enjoy reading, cooperating with others, and making fun, simple snacks, then this is the class for you.

Book Creations, gr. 1-2, 3-6 (HHS)

Do you like to be creative?  Do you like pets, castles or sports?  If so, this class will interest you.  In this class, you will be introduced to fun and creative ways to make books.  We will learn about the components of a book, brainstorm ideas of what makes a good story and create a new book each day.

Building with Legos, gr. 1-2, 3-4, 5-6 (HHS)

Discover how to build a range of imaginative Lego-brick creations as a team with Legos and designs provided by the teacher. Some projects will be completed within the day and others may take longer depending upon the complexity of the project. Students will also be given the opportunity to create and build their own Lego-brick design.

Chess and Games Galore, gr. 3-5, 6-8 (HHS)

Play the intellectual games of the Eastern and Western hemispheres.  Learn the fundamentals of chess while developing individual strategies for success and see if you can out-think your friends during round-robin tournaments.  Then, join us for fun and laughter with old and new friends as we play games such as Pictionary, Pictureka, Mad Gab, Scrabble, Sequence, Uno, Skip-Bo and more.

Coding for Kids, gr. 1-2, 3-5 (HHS)

Do you ever wonder how computer games are created? Would you like to learn how computer programs are built? In this class, students will be introduced to the core concepts of computer programming; including loops, conditionals and variables. Using basic block-based coding, students will begin to learn how to create things such as programs, simple games, animations and interactive stories. No previous experience is necessary.

Creative Crafts & Gifts, gr. 3-6 (HHS)

Spoil yourself or others with crafts and gifts galore! Creative Crafts & Gifts is your chance to get hands-on experience, while designing and constructing exciting knick-knacks, mementos, must-haves, and more. This class is for those who want to take a little something home for themselves or create a gift for someone special.’

Digi-Art, gr. 3-5, 6-8 (HHS)

Digi-Art is a combination of digital art and traditional art. Students will use a variety of apps and computer programs, combined with drawing, painting and traditional techniques to create unique works of art.

Digital Scrapbooking, gr. 3-8 (HHS)

In this course, students will create an 8×8 digital scrapbook by going through step-by-step lessons that include a video tutorial and a PDF guide that leads students through the lesson techniques. The class starts off with an introduction to Photoshop.  Students will learn how to open and close Photoshop documents, add photographs to a Quickpage, use clipping masks to add photos or patterned paper, add .png embellishments, add type and lettering, draw clipping masks, save files for both print and the web, and prepare their files for printing.

Drama, gr. 1-4, 5-8 (HHS)

This class is a general introduction to the theater and the terms and concepts used in the world of drama.  There will be hands-on activities focused on developing and presenting a dramatic production.  This experience will include theater games, character development, acting techniques and set design.  During the last week of Summer Opportunities, each class will put on a production.  (Attendance is extremely important).

Field of Games, gr. 3-5 (HHS)

Learn the meaning of sportsmanship and the importance of being active through a wide variety of fun outdoor games.  We will explore several varieties of kickball, dodgeball, football and a few games you haven’t heard of…yet.

Football, gr. 1-2, 3-6 (HHS)

Are you ready for some football? You will be introduced to the fundamental skills of football:  passing, catching, kicking and other general football skills.  Learn how to play two-on-two, three-on-three and four-on-four. You can have fun in your backyard playing with your friends after taking this class.

Frisbee Sports gr. 3-5, 5-8 (HHS)

Are you looking to have fun playing sports with frisbees?  This is the class for you!  We will begin with throwing and catching skills and progress to learning how to throw for accuracy.  Games will be cooperative with a bit of competition sprinkled in.  

Fun with Origami!, gr. 1-8 (HHS)

Students will complete several hands-on activities to learn about Origami. We will explore the history of Origami, an Asian art form, while creating these beautiful artwork pieces.

Gateway to 5K (Maple Avenue)
Students entering 5K

Gateway to 5K will be an exciting transition to 5-year old kindergarten.  This class will be appropriate for children regardless of previous school or play setting experiences.  We will socialize, participate in hands-on-projects and share stories and songs.  Summer themes will prepare students for 5K as they develop coloring, writing, cutting, and gluing skills.  Language, math, gross and fine motor skills will be stressed.  We plan to have lots of fun.

German Beg, gr. 1-3 (HHS)

This course will offer lessons on many aspects of the German language, culture, and geography. Students will get to know the country and learn the German language through exciting activities and music.

Get Set for 4K (Maple Avenue)
Students entering 4K

This program will help ease the transition to 4K by providing students with the opportunity to interact with others their own age.  With a focus on socialization, children will enjoy games, songs, stories, and projects. Through play and role-playing dialogues, they will learn how to expand their vocabularies, share, imagine, create, and work together. Students must turn 4 by September 1 to attend the program and must turn 4 by the first day of summer school to ride the bus. (Shuttle bus available for a fee.)

Kickball, gr. 1-3, 4-6 (HHS)

Kickball is all about the FUN!  This playground favorite will have every player kicking, running, and laughing.  In this class, we will play traditional kickball, as well as many variations of the game.  Anyone can join in and have a great time regardless of ability or experience!

Knitting, gr. 2-8 (HHS)

Cost:  $12

Students will start practicing with looms and needles. After some practice time, students will work with the teacher to select an individual project such as a hat, scarf, or stuffed animal. The class also includes a daily read-aloud with a book related to the topic of knitting.

Makerspace Invention, gr. 1-3 (HHS)

Get caught creating and investigating in Makerspace Invention! This class provides hands-on, creative ways to design, experiment, build, and invent as you deeply engage in science, engineering, and tinkering. This is a time for you to build, explore, fail and retry, and share your ideas with others.

This hands-on math class is full of fun and exciting games geared toward each student’s grade level.  Students will gain an appreciation for math and how to apply it to real life concepts.  Students who like to have fun while learning should take this class.

Would you like help maintaining your math skills over the summer?  This class will provide interactive, fun ways of reinforcing Everyday Math concepts through problem-solving and hands-on use of manipulatives and games.

Media Team, gr. 3-5, 6-8 (HHS)

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to report the news?  Students will explore a variety of media such as newspaper, blog, Twitter and newsletters.  Students will conduct interviews, take photographs, write articles, send tweets and create the online Summer Opportunities newsletter.  No experience is necessary, just creative ideas and enthusiasm to make some noteworthy news.

No-Tech Games, gr. 1-3 (HHS)

Using our minds, hands and creativity, we will play some classic games, build with STEM construction toys, make a wooden rubber band sailboat model and have some old-school fun playing together outside.

Phy Ed Fun, gr. 1-3 (HHS)

In this class we will learn the basic rules and skills of many games.  Emphasis will be on skill building, teamwork and good sportsmanship.  Come have fun with us in this non-threatening, activity-based class.

Science Exploration, gr. 3-5 (HHS)

This science class will be a hands-on, minds-on approach to learning.  Every day, students will perform experiments involving temperature, chemistry, water, nature and fun. Come and join us.

Scrapbooking, gr. 1-3 (HHS)

Want to learn some simple techniques for organizing your pictures in a scrapbook?  Begin thinking today about what pictures you have taken that you wish to organize.  Let the fun begin with scrapbooking.  Scrapbooks will be provided; you bring the pictures.

Sew Creative, gr. 4-8 (HHS)

Sew Creative explores all the super splendid skills of sewing! Over the four-week session, students will complete a variety of one-of-a-kind sewing projects that may include keychains, pillows, scrunchies, reusable goods and so much more. If you are an experienced sewer or just starting out, this class is for you… it is going to be SEW much fun!

Snacktivities, gr. 1-2, 3-6 (HHS)

Snacktivities is the class to be at if you are a big fan of making kid-friendly snacks and learning about healthy living. Join us to learn how to make a healthy snack for you and your family with yummy ingredients. In addition to learning how to make a stellar snack creation, you will learn about healthy life-long activities including mindfulness, exercise, and overall healthy living. Please note, students may be in contact with eggs, dairy, wheat, soy, and nut products. 

Soccer Fun, gr. 1-3, 4-6 (HHS)

Students are invited to a mini-camp atmosphere that incorporates soccer skills in a small-game format.  Learn teamwork, improve coordination, build endurance and have fun playing soccer.  This class is appropriate for both experienced and inexperienced students.

Spanish Beg, gr. 1-2, 3-5 (HHS)

This class is for students who have had little or no previous Spanish.  Students will learn basic vocabulary and expressions, sing songs, play games, sample foods, and work on projects.  Learn to speak Spanish and have fun.

This class is for the student who has previously enjoyed Spanish.  We’ll expand on the experiences of Beginning Spanish as students engage in basic conversations, telling time, singing, games, new projects, and of course, foods.  Come have fun in Spanish.

Star Wars, gr. 1-6 (HHS)

Are you a Star Wars fan or just want to know more about it? This class is all about Star Wars. In “A Galaxy Far, Far Away” you’ll have a little bit of art, science, cooking, games, and a whole lot of fun. Get to know your favorite characters from a galaxy far, far away and have a blast this summer!

STEM Kids in Action, gr. 5-9 (HHS)

Students will exercise their brains in STEM disciplines which develop and strengthen skills in troubleshooting, research, experimentation, problem-solving, invention and innovation. The hands-on activities within this course will allow students to create their own engineering designs, use cutting edge technological systems and processes as well as build physical projects from their own designs. Students will also be introduced to a variety of career choices within STEM-related fields. Projects will be based upon engineering, graphic arts, woodworking, construction, manufacturing and power systems.

This class is geared for the student athlete.  It is not sport specific, but will develop the necessary speed, agility and strength for all individuals. Hamilton coaching staff members will supervise each student’s personal program.  The goal is to take the student to the next level in promoting healthy, life-long physical activity.

Track and Field, gr. 1-3, 4-8 (HHS)

Do you want to be a faster runner?  Do you love running, jumping and throwing?  Then track and field is for you.  Through careful conditioning, form running and core strengthening, athletes will work on the basic skills for success in both running and field events.  Every Friday, students will showcase their talents during a mini track meet. Race on in for a fun time.

Come and experience what a first-grade classroom is like. This class is for students entering first grade in the Fall. Summer fun will be incorporated into the curriculum, and activities previously learned in kindergarten will be enjoyed.

Ukulele Beg., gr. 2-4 (HHS)

This class will introduce the basics of the ukulele. We will learn the history of the instrument, common chords, strumming patterns, simple melodies, and how to sing and play popular songs. This is designed for students with little or no experience on the instrument.

Volleyball Beg, gr. 2-3 (HHS)

This summer enjoy playing volleyball while increasing your strength and agility.  Students will learn the correct stance, how to run and shuffle to the ball, court positions, bumping, setting and serving techniques.  Very light volleyballs will be used.

Volleyball Beg, gr. 4-6 (HHS)

This summer enjoy playing volleyball while increasing your strength and agility.  This class is designed for students who want to learn new skills or work on increasing their skills and confidence. Students will learn how to score and work on their bumping, setting and serving techniques.  We will learn how to correctly serve both underhand and overhand.

Volleyball Int, gr. 6-8 (HHS)

This summer enjoy playing volleyball at the next level while increasing your strength and agility.  This class is intended for students with either team or club experience. Students will further develop their skills in the following areas: serving overhand, blocking, spiking, bumping, setting, and offensive and defensive court positions.

World of Disney, gr. 1-6 (HHS)

This class offers students the chance to explore and create some of their favorite Disney characters through crafts and games as well as investigate the fairy tales that inspired some of the most beloved movies.

Yoga, gr. 1-3, 4-8 (HHS)

Join this introductory class to Yoga and wellness.  The benefits for boys and girls will be increased flexibility, strength, focus and general knowledge of healthy eating and living.  Students will build self-confidence and foster a feeling of self-empowerment in fitness and wellness while having fun and being active.
