Hamilton School District community members are invited to attend the dedication of Silver Spring Intermediate School. The formal dedication will be held Aug. 26 beginning at 6 p.m. on the school grounds at N58W22350 Silver Spring Drive in Sussex. Tours of the building and refreshments will follow the dedication.
Silver Spring Intermediate School is the first new school built in the district since 1999. Fifth- and sixth-graders from across the district will attend the new school beginning this fall. By taking grade 5 out of the elementary schools and grade 6 out of the middle school, the intermediate school solved classroom space shortages from 5K to grade 8.
The 183,000 square foot school was designed to house 800 students and can be expanded to serve 1,000 students. It has 54 classrooms, a 3-station gymnasium, library, commons area and main music room with six practice rooms. It was built to provide an optimal educational environment that includes energy-saving features, extensive use of natural light and materials to reduce annual maintenance expenses.
