Maple Avenue Elementary School students collected enough coins during the school’s recent Scholastic Book Fair to buy more than 100 books for the Ronald McDonald House. During the five-day “One for Books” collection, students raised more than $500 by contributing specific coins each day. They started with pennies, and subsequently contributed nickels, dimes and quarters. On the final day, students brought in coins of their choice.
“One for Books” is a community outreach program sponsored by Scholastic Books that matches monetary donations schools generate with a donation of up to 1 million books to three non-profit organizations devoted to helping children and families in need.
Maple Avenue fourth grade students organized the project, wrote and read school announcements, collected money and selected books. This is the third year Maple Avenue students have provided books for the children and families who stay at the Ronald McDonald House.
