Higlights from July, August meetings

The Hamilton School Board met several times over the summer. Following are highlights of action it took.

High school student supervisor position approved
A new high school student supervisor position was approved in July. School Board members approved the position that will monitor students from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. who are involved in afterschool activities. Funding for the position will come from the high school building budget.

Additional Open Enrollment seats opened
An additional 18 Open Enrollment positions were opened up for out-of-district students wanting to attend Hamilton schools. The district will accept as many as four additional Open Enrollment students in 4-year-old kindergarten, two in 5-year-old kindergarten, two in first grade, five iin second grade, two in third grade, two in fourth grade and one in fifth grade. Even though there were still students on the secondary grade level waiting list, no additional secondary student positions were made available because of class size limits. The district already had 53 seats available.

Employee contracts approved
The School Board approved salary and benefit packages for several employee groups. Paraprofessionals received a 3-year package that will in increase their salaries 5.72 percent in 2006-07, 4.9 percent in 2007-08 and 3.92 percent in 2008-09. The superintendent’s contract was extended two years with a 2.3 percent salary increase. Other administrators’ contracts were approved with an average 3.99 percent salary and benefit increase. Confidential support staff members saw an average 4.06 percent salary and benefit increase with the approval of their contracts.

Funding provided for police liaison
The school district will provide $10,000 toward funding of Waukesha County police liaison services for the 2006-07 school year. The Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department contributes the remaining funding.
