Hamilton teams win state Battle of the Books

Hamilton High School students Krystal Fedie, Molly Hubred, Mabel Jankowski, Harper Rhodes and Dorothy Palmer (alternate) took first place in the senior high school division at the Wisconsin Educational Media & Technology Association (WEMTA) Battle of the Books competing against 73 teams statewide.

Templeton Middle School eighth grade students Maja Pechanach, Nikhita Nair, Ellie DeCleene and Athena Wenger also competed in the senior high school division won third place.

The senior high level reading list includes 20 books and incorporates award-winning literature such as Golden Archer, Newbery, Printz and Siebert. The teams will receive a plaque and students will receive individual certificates.

Battle of the Books is a fun, academic-based statewide competition designed to promote a love of reading among students. It encourages students to read a variety of books and remember information about the plots, characters and settings. Every question asked in a battle is answered by the title and author of the book.
