Hamilton School District is one of just 373 districts across the U.S. and Canada named to the ninth annual Advanced Placement (AP) District Honor Roll by the College Board.
Districts on the list are honored for expanding access to AP course work while maintaining or increasing the percentage of students earning scores of 3 or higher on AP Exams.
Hamilton Principal Candis Mongan credited staff members and students for the school’s success. “This recognition demonstrates that students continue to maintain or improve in areas that are essential for their success after high school,” Mongan said. “It also shows the ability of teachers to prioritize instruction so that students experience an academically challenging educational program.”
Inclusion on the ninth annual AP Honor Roll is based on examination of three years of AP data in which districts must:
- increase AP participation and access by at least four percent in large districts, six percent in medium districts and 11 percent in small districts;
- increase or maintain the percentage of exams taken by minority students and increase or maintain minority students scoring 3 or more on at least one AP exam; and
- improve or maintain performance levels when comparing the percentage of students in 2018 scoring a 3 or higher to those in 2016, unless the district has already attained a performance level in which more than 70 percent of the AP students are scoring a 3 or higher.
“Success in Advanced Placement is a combination of students’ own motivation and the opportunities educators provide for them,” said Trevor Packer, College Board senior vice president. “I’m inspired by the teachers and administrators in this district who have worked to clear a path for more students of all backgrounds to earn college credit during high school.”
Inclusion in the AP Honor Roll is based on a review of three years of AP data from 2016 to 2018. Through 38 college-level courses, each culminating in a rigorous exam, AP provides academically prepared students with the opportunity to earn college credit, advanced placement or both at more than 4,000 four-year colleges and universities.
