Karen Ludin, Willow Springs Learning Center paraprofessional, was nominated by a co-worker because:

 

Karen always has a smile and positive attitude. She willingly helps students and staff alike with whatever needs to be done!

Patty Sankey, Silver Spring Intermediate reading specialist, was nominated by a co-worker because:

 

During virtual learning, Patty has been supporting one of my students one-one-one. Virtual learning was a bit overwhelming for this student, but Patty has done such an amazing job with motivating and supporting her each day. Now she’s able to continue learning and turning in quality work. There is no way for anyone to avoid Patty’s contagious energy and enthusiasm!

Helen Geracie, Hamilton High School guidance counselor, was nominated by a parent because:

 

Mrs. Geracie truly cares about her students and has been a valuable resource for parents. She is always willing to listen and is sympathetic about what struggles her students are facing.

Brian Latus, Maple Avenue Elementary School library media specialist, was nominated by a parent because:

 

Mr Latus has taught my kids the fascination of reading, and they now love to read. They also have enjoyed all the fun activities prior to searching out their books.

Maria Albrecht, Marcy Elementary School paraprofessional, was nominated by a co-worker because:

 

Maria has gone above and beyond putting together our Marcy Eagle News for the families.

Kristen Lee, Silver Spring Intermediate School fifth grade math and science teacher, was nominated by two students because:

 

She is very nice and she encourages you to work your best.

She always helps us out, and she is always fun to be around!

Michelle Mattheis, Templeton Middle School paraprofessional, was nominated by a co-worker because:

 

Michelle has been a great encouragement this year in many ways. She has helped me learn how to navigate the chrome book and resources on it. Michelle has gone through so much herself and always has a positive attitude.

Terry Krause, Templeton Middle School guidance counselor, was nominated by a parent because:

 

He has such a great way of reaching difficult children and appealing to their “future” as high school students and beyond. This really motivates and encourages them to take their TMS work seriously. Students respond well to Mr. Krause’s direct, no nonsense and friendly way of speaking to them.

Pam Biron, Marcy Elementary School fourth grade teacher, was nominated by a parent because:

 

She has made my daughter feel so welcome during our first year at Marcy and in this district!

Brooke Boettcher, Marcy Elementary School first grade teacher, was nominated by a parent because:

 

She has worked so hard with my son, and gave him the confidence he needed!

Alan Schneider, Templeton Middle School seventh grade teacher, was nominated by a parent because:

 

My son has never been so excited to learn a subject because of the teacher. The enthusiasm for learning social studies is contagious in his class and during virtual learning the days that my son has Mr. Schneider class meetings are his favorite. I want to thank him for keeping the positive energy and attitude that keeps his students interested, engaged, and excited during this learning-at-home time.

Joseph Sciortino, Hamilton High School math teacher, was nominated by a parent because:

 

Since fourth grade my daughter has disliked math and it was a subject she lacked confidence in. It was wonderful to see her confidence grow again with freshman algebra with Mr Sciortino. What a great teacher who saw the work she puts in and encouraged her to be her best.

Nicole O’Connor, Templeton Middle School flex math teacher, was nominated by a parent because:

 

She has been the best at helping my son in math! Truly amazing how she goes above and beyond to help kids achieve!

Darcy Randall, Silver Spring Intermediate School special education teacher, was nominated by a co-worker because:

 

Darcy is dedicated, committed, driven and focused on helping her students succeed. She supports all students and jumps in to tasks that normally wouldn’t be a part of what she does because she’s committed to the students. She sees a need and fills it. She’s an amazing teammate and I’m honored to work with her.

Michelle Schultz, Silver Spring Intermediate School fifth grade humanities teacher, was nominated by a co-worker because:

 

Michelle is AMAZING. She is extremely dedicated to helping her students succeed. Her kindness, caring, and love for teaching comes through in everything she does. Michelle collaborates with all staff consistently and continually to help meet the needs of the students. She’s always positive and professional and it’s an absolute joy to work with her.

Michelle Prei, Silver Spring math support, was nominated by several students because:

 

Ms. Prei is my advanced math teacher and she is super kind and is always helping out. She adds a little fun to everything we do and I think she is a really good teacher!

She is a very great teacher to everyone.

Mrs. Prei is my advanced math teacher. She has made this year so much more enjoyable. Math is fun because of her. Without her I would not get the concepts that we learn. She has fun games and activities that help with learning and is always willing to help. She talks to us as equals and loves to play awesome music to help us work. She takes everyone’s opinions into consideration and does her best to make math a safe and happy learning environment for everyone!

She is one of the most amazing teachers I have ever had. Her learning style is different from most teachers because she does different activities to make learning fun.

I chose to nominate Mrs. Prei, because she is friendly. She gets to know her students on a personal level, and is there to help if you do not understand. She tries to help her students in every way she can. She brightens up my day. She is always making math more exciting.

I am nominating her because she was an amazing math teacher. She always made math class fun and even gave us candies when we won games. We liked to play lots of khoots and do jump scares on Halloween. Overall she is an amazing teacher who made math and learning fun.

Kelly Jurasovich, Templeton paraprofessional, was nominated by a co-worker because:

 

Kelly has put in many hours of hard work helping students to get their assignments complete, take tests and quizzes, in the classroom and in their virtual learning. She spends many hours communicating with teachers on her own time to help ensure that she is able to support her students. She helps to modify assignments, tests and quizzes so they are at the appropriate levels for her students. She does all of these things and more to help her students feel good about themselves.

Ariane Fischer, Templeton paraprofessional, was nominated by a co-worker because:

 

Ariane helps her students complete assignments, take tests and quizzes. She is always willing to accept challenges given to her by teachers and students. She tries hard to help students work up to their potential and feel good about themselves. She works well with teachers to modify assignments and activities so her students can be successful both in school and in this virtual learning situation.

Katie Gleisner, Lannon Elementary School kindergarten 5 teacher, was nominated by a parent because:

 

Mrs. Gleisner has been outstanding during this time of at-home learning. She is extremely organized and responsive, and she encourages my student daily with his work. We are so thankful for her hard work and kindness during this time!

Zachary Beckman, Templeton special education teacher, was nominated by a co-worker because:

 

Zack joined our staff this year bringing with him a wealth of knowledge, creative ideas, and positive energy. He is a great team member!

Stacey Benson, Templeton paraprofessional, was nominated by a co-worker because:

 

Stacey makes connections with kids. The rapport she establishes enables her to have great, trusting relationships with students, which is so valuable when working with kids who struggle.

Angie Kolesari, Templeton paraprofessional, was nominated by two co-workers because:

 

Collaborative. Dedicated. Resourceful. Three words that immediately come to mind to describe Angie. Angie has great rapport with students, parents, and staff. Her intuition, often offering ideas and creating materials to support student learning, has led to many students’ learning successes.

Angie has put in a tremendous amount of time and effort in supporting students and me in school, and in this virtual learning situation. She supports the students that she is assigned to work with, and many others that ask her for help as well.

Barb Seefeldt, Templeton interpreter, was nominated by a co-worker because:

 

Barb has worked really hard to help her student get through Middle School for the past 3 years. During this time of virtual school, she has been accessible to him at all hours of the day and night, on weekends, and over Spring Break. She has been supporting students that she is not assigned to work with, but need help with assignments, projects and tests. She has helped teachers with gathering materials, preparing materials, and any other task they may have to do to help them out.

Rebeccah Derks, Templeton eighth grade teacher, was nominated by a co-worker because:

 

For her effort to go above and beyond in designing meaningful lessons for students. She is always working to make lessons meaningful and engaging for each class! She also steps up to help other workers with using technology, which was very important this year!

I am nominating the person because she helps me improve my leadership skills and learn from my mistakes.

Patty has gone above and beyond for students! She rides her ‘book mobile’ (bicycle) to deliver books to students all week! She is spectacular!

Callie Lauer, Silver Spring fifth grade humanities teacher, was nominated by a student because:

 

She is fun and makes learning exciting. Whenever I went into her classroom she made me smile.

Amanda Norris, Silver Spring fifth grade humanities teacher, was nominated by a student because:

 

She helps you when you need it, and she is very cheery. She made me look forward to school. 🙂

Helen Geracie, Hamilton High School guidance counselor, was nominated by a parent because:

 

Went over and above to help my son navigate high school with his learning disability.

Dedication to our students during virtual learning. Going above and beyond to connect with our students & you are an amazing teammate.

Jalena Kapetanovic, Hamilton High School ESL teacher, was nominated by a co-worker because:

 

Jelena always does a remarkable job with our ESL students – in the midst of this virtual learning the job must be even more challenging. However, the students that she services have had 100% of the work in for my class and it is always done well. I appreciate the extra effort Jelena puts into her job, and how she cares for her students.

Brian Balfany, Lannon Elementary School principal, was nominated by a co-worker because:

 

Mr. Balfany is a wonderful leader, educator, and PrinciPAL.

Jess Foderaro, Templeton special education teacher, was nominated by a co-worker because:

 

This is my first year as a Para and Jess has been very supportive and encouraging. She has been patient and helped me when I was confused or stuck on something. Jess encouraged me when I tried something new. She genuinely cares about her students’ and co -workers’ success and does whatever she can to make it happen.

Kristy Hecker, Lannon Elementary School third grade teacher, was nominated by a parent because:

 

Mrs. Hecker still is striving to create a classroom dynamic with her daily morning meetings in these unprecedented times! My daughter loves these meetings… seeing her classmates and teacher brightens her days!

Kristine Winters (Gielow), Hamilton High School mathematics teacher, was nominated by a parent because:

 

Both of my children had Mrs. Gielow for math. Her style of teaching varied for both classes to meet the exact needs of students. My son was in a class of kids that struggled a bit more. His class had to stand at the dry erase walls to perform practice activities. This not only allowed Mrs. Gielow to easily see who needed assistance, but kids could not get away with doodling, looking at phones, etc. She did not wait for kids to approach her- she helped them when she saw they needed it!

Mike Schramek, Silver Spring sixth grade math and science teacher, was nominated by a parent because:

 

He has exceeded our expectations for the past two years. His commitment to the kids themselves and their education is incredible. He genuinely cares about what his students are learning while also being equally concerned with their well-being. He is amazingly thorough when it comes to keeping parents informed – with classroom updates and fun videos to let us see what is going on in class. He exemplifies the qualities of the ideal teacher and makes it seem so natural to be all in for all of us.

Bronwyn Phillips, Woodside Elementary School second grade teacher, was nominated by a parent because:

 

Always tech savvy, she has made the difficult transition to virtual classes as smooth as possible. Thank you! I hear from families at other schools who are struggling with their virtual classes. I have been so impressed by how Woodside has made the transition. My child is continuing to learn and connect with her classmates — which is so important to her well-being.

Jody Richter, Marcy Elementary School second grade teacher, was nominated by a co-worker and parent because:

 

I am nominating Jody because she is an amazing teacher, a compassionate friend, and a positive individual in every way. Jody works hard every day to learn new things, create plans that will excite her students, checks in on co-workers, and is just so fun-loving with her students! She deserves a million high fives for her efforts and for her sunny personality! Thank you for all that you do from me and from Ben Ben!

Terry Krause, Templeton guidance counselor, was nominated by a parent because:

 

He has been instrumental in helping my daughter get organized and keep me calm. He is responsive and really seems to care about his students and what is best for each one as an individual. 

Cody Leland, Templeton associate principal, was nominated by a parent because:

 

Mr. Leland has helped me advocate for my daughter and her needs. He listens and takes your concerns as a parent seriously. He gets things done.

Andrew Renne, Hamilton High School special education teacher, was nominated by a parent because:

 

Mr Andrew Renne is an asset to Hamilton High School! Since day one of online learning from home, he has been available to help my son on a daily basis at 9 am. He helps with homework needing to be done no matter how long it takes. He has an excellent connection with my son and I would like him to be recognized for this.

Michelle Prei, Silver Spring math support teacher, was nominated by a student because:

 

Mrs. Prei is an awesome math teacher, who challenged us this year, but in a really fun way! She really went above and beyond this year as a teacher. She is by far my favorite teacher in the district so far!

Kristin Koeper-Hamblin, Maple Avenue Elementary School principal, was nominated by a co-worker because:

 

Kristin is solid as a rock as a colleague. She communicates with compassion and understanding and represents the voices of all areas of staff. As a colleague she checks in regularly and willingly shares resources and strategies. I always know I can count on Kristin to provide support when a situation arises. I appreciate the collegiality we share.

Lisa Benishek and Jess Foderaro, Templeton seventh grade teachers, were nominated by a co-worker because:

 

Lisa and Jess jumped into the co-planning to co-serve initiative with 100% commitment and fully embraced co-teaching a group of 7th graders all year. Being in their classroom several times, it was easy to experience what an inclusive culture looks and feels like and impossible to know who was the regular education teacher and who was the special education teacher. You ladies do amazing things for kids!

Anne Hatfield, Woodside Elementary School reading specialist, was nominated by a co-worker because:

 

Anne is an amazing colleague and a great sounding board. She is knowledgeable and always willing to listen, problem solve and get our group to a better place. I appreciate you, Anne!

Zachary Beckman, Templeton special education teacher, was nominated by a co-worker because:

 

Outstanding effort to connect with students and families during this time of virtual learning! Great job!

Michael Gosz, Hamilton High School confidential support, was nominated by a co-worker because:

Theresa Craig, Hamilton High School special education teacher, was nominated by a parent because:

 

Most wonderful during a pandemic. 

Cathy Drago, Hamilton School District instructional coach, was nominated by a co-worker because:

 

I am so thankful for Cathy’s insight and collaboration with the creation and implementation of the TMS World Cultures course this year. In 25 years of teaching I have never had this kind of collaboration and have never had the opportunity to team teach. I am thankful for how I grew as a teacher and all Cathy introduced me to outside of the World Language world this year.

Anna Fuhr, Silver Spring paraprofessional, was nominated by a co-worker because:

 

Anna is a true gem. I can’t imagine SSI without her. She is a jack of all trades and adds joy to any situation. From managing the 4k bus riders each morning to copy jobs in a pinch and her daily lunch duty-she helps keep our school running by doing the tasks that need to be done day in and day out. What makes her special though, is her ability to connect with staff and students alike. I am so grateful that she is on our team!

Stephanie Jungbluth, Silver Spring paraprofessional, was nominated by a co-worker because:

 

Stephanie is a true blessing! She is reliable, hard-working, and consistently seeking ways to make things better-we have refined bus and lunch duty many times this year! She takes an individual interest in each person she works with and will go out of her way to help them. Many teachers have shared with me that she is “their right hand” person in the classroom and can’t imagine life without her! Neither could I! We are so grateful that she is on our team at SSI!

Shannon Canham, Silver Spring paraprofessional, was nominated by a co-worker because:

 

Shannon is an incredible asset to our team at SSI. She has worked with kids and families her entire life and has a perspective and intuition that are hard to beat. From supporting kids academically in the classroom and small groups to running lunch duty and bus dismissal-I can’t imagine life at SSI without her. I keep thinking about standing together to wave goodbye to every bus on Fridays; and especially for the last time this year in March-I’m glad we have created that tradition.

Deanna Wellens, Silver Spring principal, was nominated by a co-worker because:

 

D is a courageous leader. I have never seen her lean away from a hard conversation, difficult choice, or take the easy way out. She consistently lives her beliefs and values as she advocates for what she believes is best for kids. She has an unwavering commitment to growth-for herself and our organization and does so in a way that is authentic, honest, and personal. Her fearless leadership, innovative spirit, and warm heart has shaped the foundation of SSI.

Jay Orlowski, Lannon Elementary School kindergarten teacher, was nominated by a parent because:

 

Mr. Orlowski has gone above and beyond in providing virtual learning for all his students! His lesson plans are easy to follow with great links! He does a great job of providing a variety of work to keep the kids interested, challenged and excited to learn. These times are challenging and Mr. Orlowski has made this new normal easier for all involved.

Christina Garley, Silver Spring fifth grade math and science teacher, was nominated by a student because:

 

She is a wonderful teacher and she understands how to help students using her own experiences. She also has a good sense of humor.

Christy Schwechel, Silver Spring fifth grade humanities teacher, was nominated by a student because:

 

She is a wonderful teacher and is very organized and has everything planned out, especially during this challenging distance learning. She makes learning fun and enjoyable.

Chris Botsford, Silver Spring fitness education teacher, was nominated by a student because:

 

He is a great teacher because he makes learning fun and informational. He has a great sense of humor!

Andy Fox, Silver Spring fitness education teacher, was nominated by a student because:

 

He does a lot for the school including hosting intramural activities and student council and he’s a great fitness teacher.

Chris Hunkins,  Lannon Elementary School fourth grade teacher, was nominated by a parent because:

 

Mr. Hunkins is an enthusiastic and motivating teacher who cares about each student! He takes time to get to know the students academically and personally. Mr. Hunkins has gone above and beyond with the virtual teaching! He is always available to answer questions, has scheduled meetings with students weekly and encourages my daughter to do her best. My daughter said, “Mr. Hunkins always makes learning fun!” Thank you for all you do!

Michelle Prei, Silver Spring math support teacher, was nominated by a parent because:

 

Mrs. Prei makes math fun through interactive games, scavenger hunts and creative lesson plans. My kids are excited to go to math and state that Mrs. Prei is their favorite teacher at SSI. And the fun has not stopped with the online learning. Last week she had the students perform a math scavenger hunt. My daughter won so Mrs. Prei drove from New Berlin to Sussex to drop off a prize! It made my daughter’s day. We are lucky to have such a creative and dedicated teacher. Thank you!

Ben Helm, Hamilton High School social studies teacher, was nominated by a co-worker because:

 

During virtual school, Ben Helm has shown flexibility by adjusting his grading policy, and number of homework assignments (with focus on big idea projects) for English learners, who need extra time to complete their work. Ben adds recorded lectures to his google classroom, which has also been very helpful. Additionally, Ben has been available to both students and support teachers for quick response, and communication/collaboration in google hangouts.

Elizabeth Sidders, Marcy Elementary School kindergarten teacher, was nominated by a co-worker because:

 

Betsy taught me how to put together the Marcy Eagle News. In the beginning, she spent a lot of time helping me! I had never used software or programs like this as technology is not typically a strong area for me! She is a wonderful teacher and mentor. I cannot thank her enough for her patience and time she spent answering all of my many questions. She went out of her way to help me and I am so grateful.

Lori Hinytz, Hamilton High School social studies teacher, was nominated by a co-worker because:

 

Truly is an amazing teacher and person. So smart and full of knowledge. Very talented in the baking area and always having treats. She is approachable and hilarious, and students love her as well as staff. I love working with her and love her commitment to the students and profession. Lori is just awesome all around.

Amy Hilgenberg, Woodside Elementary School kindergarten teacher, was nominated by a parent and co-worker because:

 

I am nominating Mrs. Hilgenberg for everything that she does. She has gone above and beyond all school year, but she has outdone herself now. She has given all the support to my daughter, and I could not be more thankful that Lilly is in her class this year. We knew moving here this year would be hard for her because she made so many friends at her old school, but Mrs. Hilgenberg has made her feel so happy and comfortable at her new school. Thank you, Amy, for everything you do! We love you!

Stephanie Werry, Templeton eighth grade social studies teacher, was nominated by a co-worker because:

 

Stephanie has baked treats for 8-Blue students and staff and delivered treats to them during this virtual learning.

Rebeccah Derks, Templeton eighth grade communication arts teacher, was nominated by a co-worker because:

 

Before the virtual learning, Beccah provided the math teachers with an extremely valuable instruction on how to use many of the features on Google Classroom. Her knowledge and expertise are truly appreciated.

Kristen Seizer, Templeton special education teacher, was nominated by a co-worker because:

 

Kirstin goes above and beyond with her students. She works tirelessly to engage and connect with them. Kirstin has worked specifically with one of our students who is a challenge to engage. She develops various strategies to help him, and is willing to try new things to bring out his best. Kirstin never gives up and truly cares about the students she works with.

Paul Schmidt, Silver Spring sixth grade math and science teacher, was nominated by a student because:

 

Thank you for being my home room teacher. You’ve helped me a lot in welcoming me to the school. You are a calm and nice person. You play a really good role in your job as a teacher.

Liz Lodl, Woodside Elementary School third grade teacher, was nominated by a parent because:

 

Mrs. Lodl always goes above and beyond for her students and parents. She is patient and kind. She genuinely feels responsible for each and every child’s learning and success. I have watched my daughter grow in confidence this year. We feel grateful to have Mrs. Lodl as our third grade teacher!

Becky McGinley, Woodside Elementary School first grade teacher, was nominated by a parent because:

Amanda Rittich, Lannon Elementary School second grade teacher, was nominated by a student because:

 

Her lesson plans are easy to follow and she’s able to help when needed!

Michele Trawicki, Marcy Elementary School principal, was nominated by a co-worker because:

 

Michele is an excellent colleague. She provides calm leadership through uncertain times and is always willing to provide ideas and support. What I appreciate most about Michele is her organization. She breaks down tasks and creates models for communication and planning. Michele doesn’t wait, she gets to work while issues arise and anticipates potential needs in the future.

James Edmond, Woodside Elementary School principal, was nominated by a co-worker because:

 

James is a thoughtful and professional leader. He doesn’t overreact or react too quickly to situations and he thoughtfully considers all viewpoints. He appreciates and understands the social and emotional sides of things and advocates accordingly. This has been most evident through his leadership and advocacy during the Covid-19 school closures. James has accounted for the essential needs of families as well as staff. His work is refreshing.

Tina Hill,  Silver Spring sixth grade teacher, was nominated by a parent because:

 

Thanks for taking the time on video with Tag. You’re very encouraging and you understand his strengths and where he needs assistance.

Sara Grunzel, Anne Hatfield, Nicole Tiutczenko, Libby Berry, Woodside Reading Department, were nominated by a co-worker because:

 

They are my co-workers and they are so fun, supportive, helpful, great collaborators, and creative. They make work enjoyable.

Courtney Klein, Woodside kindergarten teacher, was nominated by a parent because:

 

She has gone above and beyond with the online learning making my child just as excited as she was when in school. The special 1:1’s, zoom meetings, bedtime stories and pj parties are just a few of the things.

Margy Supa, Woodside third grade teacher, was nominated by a parent because:

 

She has helped my son in so many ways during this very new way of learning. She has reached out to myself with concerns and has called my son personally to encourage him and guide him when he is having difficulty.

Cate O’Connell, Woodside third grade teacher, was nominated by a parent because:

 

For doing a great job organizing this online learning. My son almost never asks me for help and I think that a lot of it is due to how she has everything set up.

Kirsten Schlaman,  Woodside Elementary School counselor, was nominated by a co-worker because:

 

I learn so much from watching Kirsten interact with students in “The Schlaman Way.” She finds creative ways to reach our most challenging students and consistently shows an incredible amount of patience, empathy and compassion.

Hope Onysio, Ann Brezenski, Kelly Kempen, Stephanie Werry, Templeton – 8 Blue teachers, were nominated by a parent because:

 

All 4 of these teachers personally stopped at our house to bring our daughter Kendall her contest prize on how well you know your teachers! While practicing social distancing they really made her day. This is going above and beyond!

Judy Flegner, Marcy special education paraprofessional, was nominated by a co-worker because:

 

Judy has taken on distance learning with a positive and open mind! Technology and Judy do not get along, but she keeps trying! She is doing an outstanding job and I am so happy to call her my friend and co-worker!

Christine Woywod-Veettil, Maple Avenue art teacher, was nominated by a co-worker because:

 

Christine stepped in to complete a long-term sub assignment for my high school art classes, in addition to her elementary position, when my leave of absence was extended. The original sub was not able to stay, leaving her without guidance or information, yet she jumped in and continued keeping students on track with virtual learning. She went above and beyond when she ascertained students’ needs for art materials, then made them available at school or even personally delivered to homes!

Katie Wetzel created the Templeton “We Miss You” video to send out to families.

Jenny Berwanger, Woodside third grade teacher, advanced math, was nominated by a parent because:

 

Mrs. Berwanger went out of her way to encourage our daughter when she was struggling with getting motivated for math work each day. We appreciate the extra time she took to help our daughter know that she CAN do the work and that she CAN get help when needed!

I nominate her because she is very passionate about teaching and encouraging kids. Making online school easier.

Mary Caucutt, Templeton science teacher, was nominated by a co-worker because:

 

I have had an opportunity to share EL students with Mary Caucutt the last two school years, including current virtual learning. Mary always looks for ways to have ALL her students engaged in learning. Her Google classroom is easy to navigate, her science lessons are taught in connection to real life, and with visuals. She has always taken initiative in providing modified assignments for ELs, and thus allowing them to thrive in an abstract class such as Science. Thank you, Mary!
