2024 Spring Election Information

Spring Election results

Based on the Waukesha County Clerk’s Office unofficial results of the Spring Election for the Hamilton School Board, the winners are:

  • John Castillo – Village of Butler Seat
  • Dawn Van Aacken – Village of Lisbon Seat
  • Brian Schneider – Village of Menomonee Falls Seat
  • Stacy Riedel – Village of Sussex Seat

On April 9, the Hamilton School District Board of Canvassers will meet to canvas the results and certify the election results. The Board Clerk will issue Certificates of Election on April 12.

New Board members take and file official oaths of office at the April 15 School Board meeting, but do not take their seat on the Board until April 22. New Board members will preside at their first regular School Board meeting May 7.

Board candidate information

The following individuals have declared candidacy for the April 2, 2024, election as of Jan. 2, 2024:

  • Candidate for Village of Butler seat:

  • Candidates for the Village of Lisbon seat:
    – Dawn Van Aacken (incumbent)
    – Andrew Rupert
  • Candidate for Village of Menomonee Falls seat:
    – Brian Schneider (incumbent)
  • Candidates for the Village of Sussex seat:
    – Ashlie Schaffner (incumbent)
    – Stacy Riedel

Drawing of lots for ballot order for placement on the Spring Election ballot will take place on Monday, January 8 at 10:15 a.m. at Hamilton High School in District Conference Room A.

The candidates will appear on the ballot for the April 2, 2024, Spring Election. Each Board member represents the entire school district, therefore, residents should select one candidate for each seat.

The following incumbent school board member whose term of office expires in April 2024 and
whose seat will be contested at the 2024 Spring Election has filed a Notification of Noncandidacy,
as provided under section 120.06(6)(b)3 of the state statutes:

The above list reflects filings as of December 18, 2023. The deadline for filing a Notification of
Noncandidacy is Dec. 22, 2023.

By filing the Notification of Noncandidacy, the incumbent(s) listed above have given advance
notice that they do not presently intend to be a candidate for reelection to their school board

Except as otherwise provided under state law, a qualified elector of the School District who
wishes to become a candidate and have their name appear on the election ballot for any of the
school board seat(s) that will be contested at the 2024 Spring Election must file all necessary
forms at Hamilton School District Office by no later than 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2024.

Election materials

Four Board of Education seats will be open for school board members during the April 2, 2024, election: one Village of Butler seat (three-year term ending April 25, 2027); one Village of Lisbon seat (three-year term ending April 25, 2027); one Village of Menomonee Falls seat (three-year term ending April 25, 2027); and one Village of Sussex seat (one-year term ending April 27, 2025).

Packets containing election materials such as the Campaign Registration Statement, Declaration of Candidacy EL-162sd form and other pertinent documents will be available Monday through Friday, except holidays and holiday-observance days, at the Hamilton District Office or can be accessed through the links listed below. Forms are also available on the Wisconsin Ethics Commission and Wisconsin Elections Commission websites. Those wishing to declare candidacy for school board member may do so through Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024, at 5 p.m.

An elector in the district is eligible to be a School Board member. Candidate qualifications include (EL-162sd): “At the time of filling the Declaration of Candidacy, a candidate shall meet the applicable age, citizenship, residency and voting qualification requirements…” Candidates will be 18 years of age or older, a citizen of the United States and a resident of the Hamilton School District for at least 28 consecutive days prior to taking office on the fourth Monday in April. Candidates will also affirm they “have not been convicted of a felony in any court within the United States which (they) have not been pardoned.”

If more than two individuals file a Declaration of Candidacy form for the same position listed above, a primary election will be held on Feb. 20, 2024. The two candidates receiving the most votes during the primary election will have their names placed on the spring ballot for the April 2, 2024, election.
