Residents approve district levy
Approximately 20 residents at the Hamilton School District Annual Meeting Aug. 17 approved a $29.36 million tax levy that will support a $56.12 million budget for the 2015-16 school year. Local property owners can expect a $9.56 mil rate when their tax bills arrive in December which is a decrease of 20 cents per $1,000 of value. For each $100,000 of property citizens own, they will pay $956 in property taxes to support their local schools. Property values in the district are projected to increase two percent. Sussex Lioness, Lions and Leo Clubs teamed up to “Stuff the Bus” with school supplies and books for students in need in the local community. Items were donated to Superintendent Kathleen Cooke, Ph.D., for distribution to students in the Hamilton School District.
With a total of almost 2,200 school supplies, the collection was twice as big as last year when “Stuff the Bus” was initiated. An actual school bus, provided by Dairyland Bus Company, promoted the campaign at community events including the Lions’ Daze Parade and McTeacher Night at McDonald’s. Community members were encouraged to drop off school supplies from June 20 to Aug. 1 at various community events, North Shore Bank and Associated Bank in Sussex.
Hamilton High School choirs invite the community to attend their famous brat fry and car wash fundraiser Sept. 19 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Piggly Wiggly in Sussex.
Hamilton High School Chargerettes will conduct a Poms Kids Clinic Aug. 27 and 28 for dancers and future poms team members. Students in kindergarten through eighth grade are invited to learn routines and poms sidelines from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The following day they will warm up at 5:30 p.m. for a pre-game performance on the field. The children will on the field for the running out ripple and playing of “The Star Spangled Banner.”
