Hamilton School District to host Camp Invention PDF Print
Sunday, February 10, 2008 6:00 pm
Hamilton School District will host Camp Invention, a national summer day camp that encourages children to develop their innate creative abilities. The camp will be held July 28-Aug. 1 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Maple Avenue Elementary School for children entering first through sixth grade in the 2008-09 school year.

Camp Invention is designed to help children enhance their understanding of science, math, history and the arts while having lots of fun. During the camp, children will plan and participate in a mock Mars exploration, help renovate a fictional art museum's gardens and will brainstorm ideas to help save a polluted town.

“Camp Invention’s creators continue to surprise and delight us with their innovative approach to education,” says Kristin Leaman, Maple Avenue kindergarten teacher who serves as camp director and will head a staff of local instructors and counselors. “Children who attend Camp Invention learn skills that enhance their abilities to brainstorm, solve problems and work in teams. As educators and parents, we know that children of all ages should continue sharpening these skills as we enter an era in which critical thinking will be extremely important to their future.”

Camp Invention is a project of the National Inventors Hall of Fame, a nationally recognized, non-profit resource center for creativity in Akron, Ohio. It is presented in partnership with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. It was introduced to Hamilton School District seven years ago.

The camp, which is limited to 110 children, features a low staff-camper ratio of one staff member for every eight campers.

The $205 registration fee, due on or before May 31, includes daily snacks and a t-shirt. A discount of $20 per child is offered with early registration by March 31 and the bring-a-friend program after that date. There is also an additional $5 discount for on-line registrants. Registrations received after May 31 require a $20 late processing fee. For further information or to register, call (800) 968-4332 or visit www.campinvention.org.
