Hamilton Chess team take conference championships PDF Print

Hamilton High School’s varsity and junior varsity chess teams earned conference championships for their outstanding 2004-05 season. The varsity team had a 7-win, 1-loss season while the junior varsity team had a perfect 8-0 record.

At Feb. 26 post-season conference play, the junior varsity team also won the tournament championship and the varsity team took second place. Season trophies and medals were handed out at the tournament including conference championship trophies for both varsity and junior varsity teams.

Varsity awards included a gold medal for Robert Pothier’s undefeated performance and silver medals for Michael Deau and Matthew Dlobik. Pothier earned a trophy for selection to the first team all-conference. Also earning a trophy was Michael Xiong who was selected to the second team all-conference. Deau earned a bronze medal for all-conference honorable mention.

Junior varsity awards went to Gary Peterson for undefeated performance and silver medalists were Alex Nimmer, Alex Schwartz, Benjamin Helm, Keith Meyer, Steven Newbauer, David Nimmer and Christopher Schamerhorn.

Upcoming opportunities for the chess players include state competition March 12 and 13 in Oshkosh and the Hamilton All-School Chess Tournament which will get underway in March.

Hamilton science teacher Tim Moeller is the Hamilton Chess Club advisor. Hamilton High School is located at W220 N6151 Town Line Rd., Sussex.
