Tuesday, February 01, 2005 6:00 pm
Templeton Middle School eighth graders will learn the significance of celebrations held in various world cultures as their school hosts its own Mardis Gras-Carnaval-Karneval. The Templeton cafeteria will be the site Feb. 18 from 1:45 p.m. to 2:35 p.m. for eighth grade students in French, German and Spanish classes to experience the excitement of these traditional holidays.

Students will change into traditional costumes and enter a contest with the winners crowned king and queen of the event. Each class will prepare a representative banner featuring its language of study. Students also will prepare small floats that will be paraded at the event and entered into a contest. Authentic food and music from various cultures that celebrate Mardis Gras, Carnaval and Karneval will be highlighted at the school celebration.

The goal of the event is to give students an understanding of the history of Mardi Gras, Carnaval and Karneval in a fun setting that motivates them to continue their language studies for the remainder of the school year.

Templeton Middle School is located at N59 W22490 Silver Spring Rd., Sussex.
