Hamilton High School senior Stacy Strebel was nominated for the 2005 Award of Excellence Honor sponsored by the Women’s Sports Advocates of Wisconsin (WSAW). Strebel was nominated by Hamilton Athletic Director Mike Gosz who described her as a leader.

“Stacy Strebel is the perfect example of a true student-athlete,” said Gosz. “She is a great leader both on and off the court and track.”

Strebel participated in volleyball, basketball and track while maintaining a 3.96 grade point average.

“When she competes in volleyball, basketball and track, she leads by example and the underclassmen look up to her. As a result of her leadership, her coaches have elected her captain in volleyball and track,” said Gosz.

In an essay about “What Sports Participation Has Meant to Me,” Strebel said she learned much from athletic participation.

“It has taught me time management, dedication and commitment; however, the most important thing I have gained through sports is the great relationships formed with my teammates and coaches,” Strebel wrote.

Every Wisconsin public and private high school is invited to select one student-athlete for the Award of Excellence. Criteria for selection is based on senior standing as a student-athlete, varsity lettering in at least one WIAA sport, 3.0 or higher grade point average and outstanding athletic and academic achievement.

Award recipients will be honored Feb. 5 at WSAW’s Annual Awards Banquet at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel in Milwaukee.

Founded in 1980, the WSAW is an internationally recognized nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing opportunities for girls and women who participate in sports. The organization sponsors statewide awards programs in honor of Wisconsin’s finest female athletes. The WSAW program is the only one of its type in Wisconsin, recognizing both public and private school student athletes.
