Templeton Middle School student Ellen Ames was honored Oct. 26 at the Wisconsin Association of School Boards regional meeting for earning honors in a book-writing contest.

Ames, who was a fifth-grader at Lannon Elementary School last year, was one of more than 250 students in four age divisions who submitted an original entry for the Write and Illustrate Your Own Book Contest. Her book, “My Aunt,” earned third place in the statewide contest in the grade 3-5 division.

Now in its 11th year, the contest is open to all students from kindergarten through 12th grade. Students write an original story, draw the illustrations and bind the book into a finished product. Members of the Wolf River Reading Council judged this year’s contest.

As a winner, Ames received a cash prize, a certificate of commendation and recognition during the WASB Region 15 dinner meeting held at the Country Inn in Waukesha. Her book will be on display at WASB fall regional meeting throughout the state.
