Hamilton German Club collects sweaters PDF Print

Hamilton High School’s 180-member German Club is conducting its third annual Sweater Drive until Nov. 20 to give to needy families this winter. Club members are asking community members to donate their gently-worn sweaters. In return for the good deed, the club will give contributors a bag of delicious German Gummi Bears.

The Sweater Drive is being conducted to commemorate St. Martin’s Day which is celebrated Nov. 11 in many parts of Germany. The legend of St. Martin tells of a soldier riding horseback into a small village on a very cold night. While passing a freezing beggar, he heroically tore his own cloak in two, giving half to warm the beggar. Word of St. Martin’s good deed spread throughout the land.

With the guidance from Hamilton German Club Advisor Robin Tessereau, Hamilton students are asking community members to help by donating clean sweaters. Sweaters can be dropped off in Office A at the high school which is located at W220 N6151 Town Line Rd., Sussex.
